punchpole news AM with a look at the inside game and how Steve Scalise, the number two

House Republican, is making a power play inside the steering committee. And it's important because I think,

you know, as much as this is the really kind of the inside baseball of Washington, it matters

because this has huge implications in terms of Steve Scalise,

understanding how he is trying to govern as a leader, and also kind of how House Republicans

are dealing with the ghost of Kevin McCarthy.

Yes. Okay. So the steering committee is one of the most important organs in the House Republican

conference undoubtedly. It is the committee that chooses, it is the panel that chooses committee

assignments, committee chairmanship. In some cases, in some instances, it might kick people off committees.

It is a power base for the speaker and for the leader and for powerful and smart members of the

House Republican Conference who seek seats on it. It is a regionally divided panel.

And out of, not I don't want to say out of nowhere, but all of a sudden a bunch of

Kevin McCarthy's allies are getting challenges from Steve Scalise's allies.
