Emily Luba, the crazy worm lady and we're talking about how much waste does worm composting

actually divert from the landfill?

So both on a food scrap perspective, as well as how do you make some of your own bedding

materials and with what materials do you make that betting with.

So a bit of a tongue twister there,

but I think it's an interesting episode

and it really gets into some of the practicality of it

and then gets a little lofty and talks about some of the environmental impacts that you can actually have by not sending all those banana peals and onion bits and garlic bits to the landfill.

So let's go ahead and jump right into the episode with Emily Luba the Crazy Worm Lady.

All right, we're back with Emily Luba the Crazy Worm Lady and we're talking I just love the name every time I say it

we are talking about the impact that verma composting can have both on your food

waste but also on your other types of waste because worms need

bedding as well. So Emily would you mind kind of talking about your life waste-wise before you started

vermocomposting and now how are you making an impact?

I would say before I got started with this I was pretty bad to be honest with you about kind of diverting especially food waste I was good about recycling you know my cardboard my newspapers those of things, but food waste was for the most part just

getting thrown in the trash.

And so it's been a huge shift for me now that I look now and I'm able to divert all of my own fruit and

vegetable scraps as well as scraps from friends at work and in addition to that tons of cardboard

newspapers egg crates toilet paper rolls things that you don't even think about

that you just chuck in the trash and you start to think a little bit differently about it like oh don't throw that paper towel

all the way I'll shred it up and throw it in the worm bin right right that's what I was going to ask. So how much do you think as far as amount of food waste you're feeding to your systems over maybe a given week?
