We've gotten good news during Pride Month before.

The Supreme Court handed down their decision in Lawrence v. Texas in June of 2003.

That decision legalized sawdemy between consenting adults, including straight ones.

Obergefell, that decision handed down in June of 2015, which legalized gay marriage.

But Pat Robertson dying and Donald Trump getting indicted during Pride Month?

It's not legalizing but sex or gay marriage, but we'll take it.

I don't have to explain who Trump is to my younger listeners. He's been traumatizing you

for the last seven years. But younger listeners, listeners under 40, may have no idea who Pat Robertson was.

But if you're over 40, Pat Robertson was a towering and terrifyingly powerful figure on the

religious right. The founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network creator and host of the 700 Club

a daily television program that was seeping hate and fear into people's living rooms decades

before Fox News opened the floodgates, founder of the Christian Coalition, and briefly in 1988,

a scarily credible candidate for the Republican presidential nomination.

Robertson raked in hundreds of millions of dollars, stoking fear and hatred of gays and lesbians.

In the 70s, 80s and 90s, he celebrated the deaths of gay men from AIDS. He infamously said,

God is weeding his garden about AIDS when it was killing mostly young gay men in the 1980s.

We were I guess weeds. And he would later blame the attacks of September 11th on gays and lesbians

and feminists, claimed gods and hurricanes and earthquakes to punish nations that tolerated

homosexuality. With the hatred of gays and lesbians and bisexual people and trans people, once again

on the ascendant, I've had some younger friends ask me how we got through it. The worst of it.
