So a few years back, I got a ring in the mail.

It wasn't a proposal, indecent or otherwise, from a fan.

It wasn't a cock ring or an engagement ring.

It was a doorbell.

Ring, the home security company now owned by Amazon, briefly an advertiser on the podcast, sent me and Terry one of their products, their most popular product, which is basically a high-tech doorbell that's also a camera.

So if you have a ring doorbell and someone rings your doorbell, it calls your phone and you can see video of whoever is outside your door.

And there's a speaker on it too, so you can talk to that person outside your door. The idea, as I understood it at the time, was that someone might ring your doorbell because they wanted to rob your house, but they'd want to make sure you weren't home first before breaking down your door. And if you didn't have a ring, they'd know you weren't home and break in. But if you did have a ring, you could speak to the robber on your front porch,

and the robber would go rob someone else's house because they would think you were at home

because you were speaking to them through your ring.

But the ring doorbell camera phone, video thingy, the actual physical device you put outside your door on your door jam, it's so clunky

and distinctive and und Doorbell-like in appearance that I thought it would have the opposite effect.

If you were talking to someone via your ring instead of opening the door or shouting through the door,

you were basically letting all those polite doorbell ringing robbers out there know you weren't

actually at home.

So I had my doubts.

But I took the ring home and I showed it to Terry and we actually wound up talking about installing it.

But not on our front door.

We talked about installing it in our bedroom, on the wall, across from the bed.
