I want to open this week's show by apologizing to everyone who listened to last week's show

not on Tuesday morning, but on Wednesday or Thursday or Friday morning.

Because you had to listen to me, do the opening of last week's show,

sounding pretty fairly confident that Hillary Rodham Clinton was going to win the election.

I believe that she was going to win the election, right along with Nate Silver and the other

Nate and all the pollsters and all the newspapers and all the hopeful people in the world.

And that is not how Tuesday night played out much to our shock and our horror.

Like a lot of you, I spent a lot of time despairing this week and my fair share of time

weeping this week.

And I got a text from a friend, right? When I was,

felt like I was pulling it together, felt like I might be moving out of the spontaneous

weeping phase of grieving this election and this calamity that was really been visited upon

our democracy, our republic and the world. When I got a text, I got a text from a friend who told me that her son,

who is Mexican, Mexican descent, Mexican heritage, as is her wife, said to his moms that he

wished he wasn't Mexican because the president would like him then. And I was gutted by that because I know this

kid. I know this little kid. And he's a wonderful little kid growing up in a really cool

city, Alex in Portland, Oregon. He's a terrific kid. And for this kid to have to face the next

four years with this sense of not just estrangement, but endangerment

because the most powerful man in the world, this orange shit mountain that somehow won this election,
