I'm increasingly afraid to look at my Twitter feed because it seems like every time I power it up and take a peek, some new, terrible, awful, no good rotten shit is going down.

I'm starting to engage in a little bit of magical thinking here as the pile up of terrible events

keeps getting bigger as they keep coming closer and closer together. I keep thinking maybe

something terrible won't happen today. Maybe the New York Times won't land on my porch with another

banner headline if I just stop looking at my Twitter feed or turning on the news or opening

the little blue bag with the New York Times on the porch.

Maybe if I stop looking, this shit will stop happening. Maybe me, myself, because I am so at the center of the entire universe, maybe I am

personally creating a vacuum for terrible news that is sucking in all of this horror

and all of this heartache.

So, sitting your thinking, you know, pivoting from that to maybe if I don't turn on the TV

this week, maybe the Republican National Convention won't happen.

Maybe Scott Beow won't be on national television at a major party's political convention giving a speech?

Or that bat-shitting insane bearded fuckface from Duck Dynasty or Antonio Sabato Jr.

Someone those of us of a certain age now feel bad about having masturbated to many, many

years ago in the early 1990s, or any of the other

C-list celebrities Donald Trump is gilding his shit show with.

Maybe none of them will speak and Donald won't be nominated if I don't look at Twitter or

turn on MSNBC or open the New York Times in the morning and take a look.
