It is now the holiday season.

Thanksgiving and Christmas, Kwanza, Hanukkah, all of it, coming fast and furious

over the next month.

I can't believe it. It feels like it was just summer around here. There's a call on this week's show from a young woman who is already come out to her parents, but she's not yet finished coming out to her parents. And you'll hear the call later, but it's basically a lot of my standard advice about how to come out to your parents is when you're

queer, when you're gay, lesbian, by your trans. Alert listeners, those of you who are paying

attention, and that's all of you, will note that these calls tend to come around the holidays.

We get a lot of these calls about coming out to your family, how you do it, how you make a success of it, how

you leverage yourself, your presence to make your parents into the better people that

they can be, the loving, accepting people that they should be.

And the fact that these calls come around this time of the year is not just a coincidence.

This is the time of here that people who are now becoming young adults who've moved out of the house or who have gone off to college are returning home after a taste of complete freedom and autonomy, after being able to really recreate themselves.

And, you know, somebody who is not out to mom and dad, goes to college a thousand miles away and comes out to their peers and their roommates and their

classmates and gets a taste of living openly. And then they're faced with going home and

having to either jump back in the closet or do what they need to do, what they know they need

to do, which has come out to mom and dad. That's why the holidays bring these calls. But how do I

come out to mom and dad.

And it's not just, of course, lesbian, gay, buyer trans folks that have to eventually come out to mom and dad.

This coming out stuff, particularly around the holidays, people in open relationships often have to do it.
