I guess it's only fitting that the Republican Leadership Conference is being held this week in New Orleans.

I think if you're in the Republican Party and you want to visit New Orleans, maybe there's some subconscious, intuitive sense that you better go now.

Because, as was reported last week widely, the Antarctic ice sheets are melting.

And the melt is now considered by scientists and researchers to be irreversible.

And when the ice sheets do melt, that will cause a sea level rise of conservative estimate, four meters or 13 feet, which means goodbye, New Orleans.

It also means goodbye, Florida, which is about the only upside I can see to climate change.

Marco Rubio will not be in the Senate forever because Marco Rubio will no longer have a state to represent

Marco Rubio who says that he is not a scientist, but he does not believe in climate change.

Of course, scientists believe in climate change and the Arctic ice sheets apparently believe in climate change because they are melting.

So the Republicans are meeting in New Orleans while they can.

You might want to get to New Orleans while you can because soon we won't have a New Orleans

to get to.

One of the speakers at the Republican Leadership Conference this week, the headliner, the keynote,

the opening night act, Phil Robertson,

head of the Duck Dynasty clan. After the Republicans lost the election in 2012, there was all

this talk of rebranding and reaching out to minorities, women, queers. So it seems odd that you would at this stage invite Phil Robertson,

who famously in that interview in GQ said incredibly homophobic things, but more to the point

and more offensively said these incredibly racist things. He argued and he believes that African

Americans were better off in the South under Jim Crow, which was slavery and everything but property exchange.
