When it comes to activism, and I'm still an activist, I was an act up in Queer Nation a long time ago, and I regard my column sometimes as a, you know, a platform from which I can launch an activist crusade, like the It Gets Better Project.

When it comes to activism, you know, those of us who are die-hards and willing to throw

ourselves into it 24 hours a day for a particular cause, for a particular amount of time,

what we have to do for everybody else who isn't as passionate or has lives and other

responsibilities that are drawing on their time is activists have to identify the doable

thing. The thing

that people who want, who care and want to make a contribution can do and get done and

feel good about and make a contribution. And if you get enough people to do that small

doable thing, all of those people coming together, thousands or millions of people coming

together to do the doable thing, can really make a change because collectively they, you know, all of us together

can punch above our weight as individuals.

And that's really what the It Gets Better Project was.

It was the doable thing.

Sit in front of your computer and talk for 10 minutes.

Turn on your goddamn video recording thing on your computer and talk.

Talk about where you were when you were 15 and where you are now and how it got better

for you, what you did to make it better for yourself and help put into perspective for

a lot of these queer kids what they're suffering through right now.

Clear kids who are being bullied or isolated alone.

And enough people did that that had this huge impact.

But it was a small thing, this tiny little thing that any one individual could do, this
