I was going to start this week's podcast with a little conversation about the state of Mississippi.

Because like Bill Maher said on real time last week, how often do we get to pay the state of Mississippi a compliment?

Those of us on the left, those of us who rant and rave on television and podcasts and in columns, usually when Mississippi comes up,

it's nothing that makes Mississippi look very good. But this was different. Mississippi,

there was a personhood amendment on the ballot last week. And there was a vote.

And despite a lot of people believing that it would go the idiot's way, it didn't go to the idiot's way.

And the voters in Mississippi of all places rejected the quote unquote personhood amendment,

which would have declared that every zygote was a person entitled to the same rights,

protections, as any other fully human in the world, independent human being.

It would have made, if the person of amendment had passed, it would have made abortion illegal

in all cases, including rape and incest. It also would have made abortion illegal in all cases, including

rape and incest. It also would have made many forms of contraception illegal. But voters rejected it,

and that is awesome. And I kind of wanted to talk about how awesome the voters in Mississippi were
