How US Saudi mega deal could spark nuclear arms race in the Middle East.

One part of a predicted closer US-Sowdy relationship is controversial, writes Deutsche Vela.

Experts fear Saudi Arabia may use a civilian nuclear energy program which the US will help with to develop their own atomic bombs.

I turn to Henry Sikalski, my guide on proliferation matters. He's the executive director of the non-proliferation

policy education center. Henry, a very good evening to you, you've been guiding me to pay

attention to the Saudi Arabia's ambition for nuclear power for some weeks now.

Germany has now picked up the cause in English.

What is the mega deal and what does it mean that the U.S. is now saving the proliferation of

atomic weapon making? Good evening to you.

Good evening. It's always a pleasure to be on your show. Thank you. The United States, of course, is very eager always to bring peace to warm-torn Middle East and the latest to shuffle over Gaza

accentuates a desire as we enter into a election cycle to bring peace to Middle East.

So one big, big, big, ambitious idea is, well, if we can get the Saudis to listen to us maybe we can persuade them to recognize

Israel and if Israel gets recognized and the Saudis work with them on increasing commerce,

perhaps we can deal with the Palestinian problem, maybe even using Saudi money to rebuild Gaza, etc.

But of course, what are the Saudis want?

Well, they want everything.

They want more weapons from the United States.
