The topic today has to do with marriage. Back in my pre-marriage and early marriage days, I used to

attend my mother-in-law's Bible studies, and I learned so many

things from her, and we have plenty of family sayings that came from her. But one of those sayings

was a quotation from Walter Trobush, who wrote a book called I Loved a Girl. And here's the quote.

There is not a man on earth who can satisfy the heart of a woman. I can still hear Bessie quoting that.

Now, why would she like that quote so much? Well, obviously because it is true, but also because it was a big help to her, both in her own marriage and in the lives of those women who came to her for counsel.

So why is it that man cannot satisfy the heart of woman?

Is this because man is a fallen creature? Well, yes, of course, but it's also because woman is a

fallen creature too, and they both have fallen hearts with impossible expectations. No creature on earth,

no matter how godly, can satisfy our hearts. Only the Lord can do that.

With man, it is impossible. Woman was made to be a helper and completer to the man. He who finds a wife

finds a good thing and blessing from the Lord. When we embrace this calling, we can find true

satisfaction in working hard, establishing a home, bringing up children, and glorifying God through

it all. And this satisfaction is incomplete without God's forgiveness for our many sins and failings

along the way. But there truly is a great blessing and joy

and working hard at what God calls us to, whatever it is. But today, I'm speaking particularly

about working hard in our marriages. There's always a temptation. And all these temptations actually

are as old as dirt. And when women get married, they tend to shift their emotional

dependence from God, where it should be, to a creature, that poor unsuspecting husband of yours.

This is a temptation that is not that uncommon. I'm not saying all women will do this, but certainly they're tempted sometimes to do this.
