The city of Sardis was built on a plateau that reaches up 1,500 feet over the valley floor. And this plateau city was surrounded on three sides by smooth rock walls that go

walls. And in the ancient days, the only way to get into the city was one entrance on the south

side, and the path leading up to the city was steep and difficult to climb. So this is a city that was

considered impregnable. They felt secure, and as a result, they became complacent, and they were prone to let down
