Summary

"Fear is powerful. Shame is powerful. Our doubt is powerful. It's powerful enough to keep you stuck in relationships. It's powerful enough to keep you alone, to keep you from pursuing your purpose and a business deal, whatever. It's got power too. And if you're going to have power, you got to have the right target." - Sarah Jakes Roberts Dynamic spiritual leader Sarah Jakes Roberts shares a transformative approach to reclaiming personal power from the grip of fear and shame. Through raw honesty about her own journey from feeling powerless to discovering authentic strength, she reveals how normalizing our insecurities has masked their true impact on our lives. Roberts challenges listeners to face their fears head-on, offering profound insights about the importance of accurately sizing up our opponents – whether they're self-doubt, past trauma, or the hesitation to use our voice in crucial moments. Drawing from her book "Power Moves," Roberts introduces a practical framework for transformation that begins with self-reflection and ends with actionable change. She emphasizes the power of living in duality – acknowledging where we've been while refusing to let it dictate our future. Through personal examples, including her own struggle to speak up in relationships, Roberts demonstrates how to identify fear's manifestations in our daily lives and practice new responses. Her approach combines frank self-assessment with spiritual guidance, teaching listeners how to exercise their power muscle privately before stepping into fuller expressions of their authentic selves publicly.

For someone that thinks that they've never been enough, that they don't believe they're enough,

0:18.4

or they don't believe they're worthy or deserving of their own power.

0:22.7

What are three things that you think,

0:24.9

maybe from your book,

0:25.8

Power moves that they could start to apply today

0:29.5

to feel more enough and more powerful?

0:32.6

So I've spent almost as much time feeling like I was powerless than I have flowing in this level of power.

0:42.6

Really?

0:43.2

Yeah.

0:43.9

And I will say that part of the reason why so many of us end up feeling powerless is because we have not fully sized up our opponent.

0:54.6

So if you have fear, if you have shame, if you have doubt and you have worry,

0:59.5

we say these words so casually and so frequently that they have become normalized.

1:05.0

The only problem with normalizing our insecurities, our fears, the abandonment,

1:10.1

the rejection issues is that they don't really

1:12.7

have the same level of power that they need to have in order for us to overcome it. And by that,

1:18.9

I mean, fear is powerful. Shame is powerful. Our doubt is powerful. It's powerful enough to keep you

1:26.0

stuck in relationships. It's powerful enough to keep you stuck in relationships. It's powerful enough to

1:28.6

keep you alone, to keep you from pursuing your purpose and a business deal, whatever. It's got power too.

1:35.3

And if you're going to have power, you got to have the right target. And instead of trying to

1:39.9

target something that's going to make you feel better about those things, we have to face off with the fear. We have to face off with the doubt and with the shame. We've got to look that thing in the eye and say at the end of the day, I no longer want to be controlled by you any longer. You've had my name for far too long. You've dictated my destiny for far too long. I want to be better than who fear says I am. I want to be

2:02.1

better than what shame says that I am. And in order to direct our power in the right direction,
