I'm joined by our regulars Bill Galston of the Brookings Institution

in the Wall Street Journal, Damon Linker of the Week, and Linda Chavez of the

Niskannon Center. Our special guest this week is George Will, whose latest book is American Happiness and Discontents.

All right, our first topic this week will be the State of the Democratic Party, a party which received a blunt and unequivocal rebuke this week from an unlikely source, that is the voters of one of the most progressive

communities in America namely the voters of San Francisco who recalled

three members of the school board.

Why only three?

Because those were the only three that they could possibly recall this time.

Allison Collins was recalled with 79% of the vote.

Board President Gabrielle Lopez with 75%

and Vice President Fagamoliga,

but 72%.

So there are all kinds of details about why this happened.

I'm going to start with you, George Will.

What happened here and tell us what you think it portends.

Well, the first thing that happened was they were busy renaming 44 schools for reasons ranging from the dumb to the unintelligible.

While they were keeping the schools closed and

surprise surprise the parents thought this was disproportionate in some ways.
