I am Chris Clark from Chiefs Digest and today we have some news to talk about.

Of course, as I mentioned on Friday, there was no way that Sammy Watkins would continue to be in

a Chief's uniform later this season when the NFL kicked off and

what do the chiefs do on Friday but they sign Sammy Watkins to a contract extension or a

redone contract I should say.

So I was wrong on that.

I'm happy to be wrong on that.

It's a great situation for Kansas City to be able to bring him back and honestly the number isn't too bad.

He is going to count for

16 million against the cap in 2020 and that's going to be a little concerning

but the problem is is he was going to count 7 million against the cap regardless

There was no way to get out of that that was a proration of his of his contract from

The original one that he signed so that was going to be here regardless so really

he's costing 9 million in additional cap space that we didn't think that he was

going to cost this year but they got the deal done at this point. The deal is for $9 million for 2020.

He's got a $1 million signing bonus. Not sure when we'll get that. When he'll get that we don't know those type of contract details at this point.

But you know obviously he will get that sometime in the near future that's going to be a signing

bonus and that will not be prorated because obviously it's just a one-year deal.

Then you're looking at a $7 million base salary for Sammy Watkins.
