Sam Jay is a writer for Saturday Night Live and an amazing comedian.

She's the writer behind them trumps.

But if you go into the mind of many great comics,

there's a lot of pain.

This story is no different. Sam grew up in Boston, not far from where I grew up,

and she spent a long time coming into herself. She had to really get to know herself as a person and

as a lesbian before she could really truly commit to doing stand up in the right way and tearing up stages.

We talk a lot about really getting to know yourself because that's one thing a lot of people have told me on this show.

It's hard to show up as the best version of yourself if you haven't done the work to really find

out who you are.

Sam did that work over many years quite often while she was

sleeping on one girlfriend's couch or another and now she's living her best life

and writing for Saturday Night Live. I'm so proud of her so please welcome Sam Jay to

Trust yourself. If it feels funny to you, it's probably funny and if it's not working you probably just haven't figured out how to make it work so keep fucking trying. Like if the joke is scary that's probably the joke you need to do if the joke feels too easy it is too

fucking easy it's like life shit but if you're scared to tell it probably tell it because even if it's not the joke you land on it's the

fear is excitement also and that's like that's going to lead you to whatever the

thought is you know and usually you're scared of presenting your most

authentic self because that's when you're the most vulnerable.
