we're putting on a retreat at Holy Trinity Parish here,

today and tomorrow.

So let's offer this rosary, thousands of people out there praying the

rosary for the retreat happening here in Georgia and for all of the men and

women that will be experiencing this retreat that the Lord

will draw them deeply into his heart.

So let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

And let's call to mind all those we've promised to pray for.

Today is the Feast of St. Josephine Bakita.

She was born in 1869 in Darfur, Sudan.

When she was nine years old, she was kidnapped by Muslim slave traders,

forced to walk 600 miles barefoot,

sold five times in the slave markets of Sudan,

and every day she was whipped until she bled.

Finally in 1882, Bakita was bought by an Italian merchant who returned to Venice

Italy taking her with him. But soon after, the businessman had to return to Sudan, so Bakita was entrusted

to Catholic nuns in Venice. There she learned about God and heaven for the first time.

Up to this time, she had known only slave masters who beat her.
