| 0:38.9 | So let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. |
| 0:42.0 | And let's call to mind all those we've promised to pray for. |
| 0:46.0 | Today is the Feast of St. Josephine Bakita. |
| 0:50.0 | She was born in 1869 in Darfur, Sudan. |
| 0:54.0 | When she was nine years old, she was kidnapped by Muslim slave traders, |
| 1:00.0 | forced to walk 600 miles barefoot, |
| 1:03.4 | sold five times in the slave markets of Sudan, |
| 1:07.8 | and every day she was whipped until she bled. |
| 1:11.6 | Finally in 1882, Bakita was bought by an Italian merchant who returned to Venice |
| 1:18.8 | Italy taking her with him. But soon after, the businessman had to return to Sudan, so Bakita was entrusted |
| 1:27.9 | to Catholic nuns in Venice. There she learned about God and heaven for the first time. |
| 1:35.0 | Up to this time, she had known only slave masters who beat her. |
