If you're talking about the dangers of going solo, you know, I deal with more on my commute to work than I do in the outdoors.

I deal more with things just walking down the street, you know, or shopping in the grocery store. I deal with far more sticky situations or

harassment when I'm just in my you know nice little neighborhood in Portland than I do in any other situation outdoors.

This is Sarah Groth's Jorsthen.

Sarah is a journalist who wants to rewrite the narratives we've often been told about safety

as women spending time outdoors, whether it's solo or with other women.

For as often as we're told that solo excursions aren't for us,

the backcountry is where Sarah feels safest.

Women are all too familiar with the feeling of being honked at, shouted at, leered at. We're familiar with being groped and told to smile. It's exhausting and terrifying because we never

know when it's going to escalate into something more dangerous. Sarah is a hard worker with an adventurous spirit.
