I'm John Betts, Thetis, McCutter of American Greatness, former member of Congress,

is here as my colleague and co-host,

and we're very pleased and privileged to speak to Judy Dempsey,

senior scholar for the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace,

who helps us understand not only European Union politics,

Judy is a long, long veteran practiced journalists throughout Europe, many, many decades.

But at the same time, to look at Germany in specific.

And, Judy, I come to Germany again because it has this story that is something that resonates in the U.S.,

the populist rising party, the AFD,

and here we call it MAGA,

or MAGA Republican Party, rising populist party,

now hit the same problem,

but with different outcomes.

The Republicans are in control here

and are being penalized for the poor state of the economy

whereas AFD is not in control in Germany

and has great prospects. Will that work to the populist

success despite the fact that I don't think they have any better answers

than the Magas do.

It's a very good question because this was a discussion we were having just last evening in Vienna,

a very distinguished panel that included the former Chancellor of Austria.

And we were discussing these populist parties. And if we look at the case in Germany,
