I'm John Batchel with the Friends of History Debating Society. Jeremy's actress is in New South Wales,

0:06.3

and Jeremy, for several years now, has been teaching me cricket. I'm a dutiful student. I watch the

0:10.9

clips at night. I study the scorecard. I don't have the lingo to talk it, but I understand what

0:16.6

they mean when they're talking about it. However, recently it's come to my attention that all

0:23.7

is not well in the cricket by the sea. Something's funny going on between Canada, maybe New Zealand,

0:30.4

but definitely Canada. For several weeks now, we've been waiting for the results of an investigation,

0:36.4

if there is one, of a game that was

0:40.1

T20 game faster one day between a Canadian team and a New Zealand team. No results yet,

0:48.4

but they haven't denied that they didn't find anything. And now, Jeremy, what's happened with

1:10.0

next six months because, and I quote,

1:12.4

allegations of corruption, financial mismanagement and match fixing. And what the International

1:18.4

Cricket Council has requested from Canadian Cricket is to basically get themselves in order,

1:24.2

effectively run the investigations, stamp out any of these allegations or at least fix

1:28.9

them. Otherwise, guess what? At the end of the six months, Canadian cricket may not receive

1:34.0

any more funding. And John, honestly, while the funding is not a huge amount of money, it's really

1:38.9

only around about $2 million US. It is big for Canada because Canada isn't necessarily the biggest

1:45.4

cricketing country in the world.

1:47.1

So this is devastating for them, but they've got six months now to fix themselves.

1:51.0

And this also tells us something about the allegations we spoke about last time about
