I'm John Batchler. Jeff Bliss is Pacific Watch, And Jeff reports to us from Portland, Oregon, where my

last memory of Portland is always a poor donut shop, very famous donut shop, with troubled individuals,

sometimes called homeless really just challenged, health challenge because of chemical addiction out front of a donut shop.

Jeff, a very good day to you. We're headed to L.A., but Portland has its problems with the so-called

homeless. Is the donut shop still beleaguered by them? Good day to you.

Today, John. I would say almost all businesses seem beleaguered by them.

Every time I come to Portland, which is frequently these days, it's just sad to see how

the population has expanded. Not much appears to be done to take care of them. Of course,

things are being handed out. You see those long lines, people, you know, stepping up to soup kitchens, basically.

But really, the tents encampments have spread out, the people begging for money, that you see that.

You see people passed out or lying on sidewalks and streets.

It's a sad thing because Portland's such a beautiful city.

It sounds like a scaled down version of Los Angeles, or is it worse?

You know, I don't know if it's worse because, you know, L.A. has got these big encampments, and it's pretty spread out.

You know, it grew from our early years of you and I broadcasting to watching it move from

downtown L.A. out to the suburbs and beyond. But Portland, it really sticks out because things,

especially in the downtown area, are pretty concentrated. But even then, even out to the suburbs,

you see them, the homeless, you know, wandering or camped out under bridges.

And there's just nothing being done to move anybody, it seems like.

Well, then we'll find a good story in this. And that's why we're headed at Los Angeles.
