I'm John Batchler. I welcome Henry Sikovsky, the executive director of the Non-Proliferation Policy

Education Center, observing the Strait of Hormuz crisis, the wars in the Middle East, the wars in

Eurasia, and what is to be done. We look to what Henry has guided me through for the last years

of the Ukraine War, which is the significance of a nuclear

power station, in this case the largest in Europe, in the middle of a war zone. What is to be done?

What we've witnessed for years now is no particular protection from the random missiles and

combat units in and around Zaporisia.

What does that translate into is a warning.

I learn in the most recent conflicts that there's much attention to infrastructure,

including, of course, the nuclear power plants that are available anywhere in the Middle East,

but especially to do with combatants.

And what we learned in Ukraine was there was no protocol that we could automatically call upon

in the event of catastrophe, which can include a cutoff of electricity,

not just a direct strike at the dome of a nuclear power

plan or the shutdown of the fuel rods before they're adequately stored. We learned that there are

many things that can go wrong. I did not know that the Department of Energy was now worried about

drones.

Is this fresh?

Because that was not a major piece of our conversation when talking about Zaporasia.
