I'm John Bachelor. I welcome my colleague and friend Jeff Bliss's Pacific Watch,

and we go immediately to our favorite new city, old city, city in the desert, Las Vegas.

Because Jeff reminds me that this is spring break. It's also Easter weekend. And spring break is something I associate with Florida or the Bahamas.

But that's East Coast thinking.

Apparently spring break is associated with Las Vegas, all new to me.

Is this an old tradition that the universities and colleges go to Vegas for a holiday weekend?

Good morning, John. It's really, it's something that's grown over the past couple decades. Palm Springs and Newport Beach used to be the two

big spots in spring break on the West Coast. Newport Beach was certainly through the 60s,

maybe even 70s, turned to Palm Springs, which always had a good draw.

Things got a little out of hand in the 80s and 90s there.

And so it seemed like a good time for a lot of people to look to other places.

And Vegas was there waiting with open arms.

And they've really taken to catering to the college kids in that age group around this time.

They have free concerts.

The prices drop a little bit.

There are a lot of different offerings.

And last night and the night before it was just,

it was wild, the number of people turned out downtown in the Fremont,

the Fremont area for free concerts.

It's just packed thousands, thousands and thousands of people.

And they all seemed to be having a great time. When we were there, it was the beginning of
