I'm John Batchel with Peter Berkowitz, and the new article or publication by two Palantir seniors,

Sham Sankar and Madeline Hart, lead us to believe that the Department of Defense is dysfunctional and has been for centuries.

Okay, what is to be done?

A recoupling of the great schism.

What does that mean, Peter?

Well, the great schism occurred as a result of the two problems we just discussed,

monopsony and top-down management.

And as a result of that, commercial innovation

on the one hand and defense on the other

went separate directions.

Nobody in the Pentagon, few people in the Pentagon

paid attention what was going on out there

in the world of software,

in the world of high tech.

And if they did, they thought they could simply pick the companies and pick the products.

What Sankar and Hartwant is a recoupling of this commercial innovation and defense and for that to happen

they identify three important steps one is that the department of war has to has to encourage within the

department of war within the pentagon competition for the best technology have more than one person or more

one more than one office in charge of the search for the best new technology they also they also

emphasize and Palantir was involved in this that that the Pentagon has to do a better job of comporting with already

existing laws that require the Pentagon to go out into the commercial world and search

for the best commercial options to the Pentagon's technological needs.
