This is John Batchel, a conversation with Bob Zimmerman about SpaceX, but it's about where

0:07.0

SpaceX is in Texas. Bocachika, Texas is the name of the nearby town that is cooperating with

0:15.8

SpaceX. Nonetheless, there's a construction of something called Starbase.

0:26.5

And the surprising thing about Starbase is that it has an amazing future,

0:31.0

second century, third century since the beginning.

0:36.1

All of Texas does, I can see that being a platform for low Earth orbit,

0:39.2

the Earth-moon system, and beyond the Earth Earth system in the 22nd and 23rd century. But right now, there's a new town called Starbase.

0:46.4

And what if they held an election and nobody showed up? Here's Bob to explain why.

0:56.4

More of this tonight.

1:03.7

Well, it's a real town, but it's where Boca Cheka is located, where SpaceX is, and it's a star ship's super heavy launch.

1:06.5

And everybody there is pretty much an engineer.

1:20.6

town can determine when to launch. And since they're all SpaceX employees, they're going to work in

1:25.2

that favor. And what is it? last year they elected a mayor and two

1:29.5

commissioners to run the town, which isn't really a lot, but it mostly has to do with closing beaches.

1:34.7

The mayor is a SpaceX executive who's in charge of test and launch for the company. So he's

1:41.1

directly involved in making sure beaches are closed when they don't want to launch. The other two commissioners, one is a wife of an employee, and the other

1:48.4

one is in their environmental health and safety division, which means they're mainly there

1:53.1

to make sure SpaceX is meeting, I think, government regulations for safety, which means

1:57.7

their priorities aren't as high intense engineering.

2:02.2

So there was going to be an election.
