I'm John Batchel. I welcome Professor Richard Epstein. He's at the Civitas Institute, the University of

Texas at Austin. He also teaches law at NYU in the University of Chicago. The war fighting

continues all around us in the Middle East, and in Israel and in Ukraine. At the same time, we're

dealing with a story that dominated the news this last year since the Liberation Day of

April 2025.

And it's now back...

It's now back in the news because the Trump administration can chew gum and chew gum at the same time.

I deliberately mangled the metaphor because it's not clear that this is all

going well. But in any event, there are decisions that must be made about what state or what trade

matter is not in compliance with our rules. And you go to court to find it. And here's a headline

that sends us on our way. Trump targets industrial

subsidies in forced labor and tariff probes. This is the Wall Street Journal. I read,

investigations under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 will take aim at what the U.S.

deems as unfair trade practices. It has a photograph of the

President coming out of Air Force One with his usual extremely unhappy look on his face and a very

long purple tie to introduce us to the tariff wars one more time. Richard, this was expected.

Is it likely to come to a quick conclusion, or are we going

into courts again, and we have to wait for the courts to decide? Good evening to you.

But we're certainly going to have to go to court, but everybody's willing to do so.
