I'm John Batchel, and I welcome Arthur Herman, long-time colleague of mine because he's guided me to

unknown worlds of the 20th century. Now we're going to the 21st century. Arthur is a senior

research fellow at the Civitas Institute, the Pulitzer Prize finalist, author of 11 books. Most recently

how the Scots, or most relevantly, how the Scots invented

the modern world. I know, Arthur, for having guided me through the arsenal of democracy,

but we come to a combination of them, Arthur. I congratulate you for having written for Civitas

Outlook, anticipating the events of the last 24 hours. One, the new Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, made a speech in which he said,

this moment in time is not a transition from how Canada and the United States regard each other,

but is a rupture in the opinion of both.

Two, in between that moment, the Prime Minister's speech and the President's speech in Davos,

a front-page article in the Globe and Mail in Toronto, entertaining seriously and soberly the U.S. invading Canada,

recommending Canadian patriots to fight like the Mujahideen in the hills as guerrillas. And three,

the president's remarks at Davos, what I can take from them is that there was no one who

wasn't going to be both insulted and flattered at the same time. But the president restating again

and again, we must have Greenland, we must have Greenland, not offering any

particular bow to Canada other than to say that he will press ahead with his opinion of

Canadian participating in the rip-off, I believe that's the term of Arthur and the President

uses now and again of America. Arthur, your piece and Civitas, written before these three events, is a response.
