about the future for his country, Peru, with the United States.

Oscar is Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the Universitat Scientificate D'Alsour in Peru. He's also a fellow of the public law and policy program at Berkeley Law and founding director of B. Latin. Oscar, a very good day to you. The surprising news to me,

given the troubles that Peru has had recently, including two now detained former presidents, one elected, one elected vice president, and then elevated to the presidency and then detained.

And an election in the springtime, all that trouble. And yet the U.S. is just named Peru a non-NATO partner, a non-NATO military partner.

What does that mean for Peru?

It's very important because in the last years, we have seen a lot of influence by China in the region and in Peru. They have

made a lot of investments, but as we already know, when they do this type of economic

ties or investments, they are thinking not only in economic terms but in security terms and

geopolitical terms so we saw a lot of influence and we see a lot of influence from China
