I'm John Batchel, and I welcome my good colleague Ernesto Aerouja, former foreign minister

of the Republic of Brazil. He's traveling. He's in Africa to comment on the turmoil in Latin America

these last days since the raid on Caracas launched by the Trump administration. Latin America

is always at risk and vulnerable for years from outside forces,

but now there seems especially a blunt presentation of the choice in the immediate future

because there is a major election in Colombia in springtime and a major election in Brazil

in the fall.

We begin, however, with Ernesto's observation of Venezuela these last days since the

raid at the beginning of the year that detained Maduro and his wife, now in the U.S.,

facing charges of drug trafficking,

narco-terrorism, and chaos, mayhem.

Your thoughts on the matter, given what I have been told by the London reporting,

are four criminal gangs now competing for domination in Caracas to deal with the Trump administration.

The gang associated with Dulci Rodriguez and her brother Jorge, who's the head of the National Assembly.

Dulce Rodriguez is the acting president, the vice president now elevated to president. There is Dios Dio, the Cabello, the head of

the interior ministry, those are the guys with the guns, hardliner. There is Padrina Lopez,

the highest uniform military man in the country, in charge of the army, guys with

the guns.

And then there's what's left of the Maduro gang without Maduro, headless.

All of them have part in the brutality towards the people of Venezuela, but also in the drug

trade, in violence, in threats to the region, in sheltering
