I'm John Batchel with Jeff Bliss, my colleague who is Pacific Watch.

It is a year plus for the Palisade-Eaten L.A. fires.

The celebration of surviving has now been replaced by what really happened. And I learned from Jeff and all the articles he's sending to my attention

that cannot be completely answered. But it does begin to tell a story that is profoundly different than the one we had in the first weeks and months and even year after the event.

You are Pacific Watch, and a year ago, day by day, starting in early January, you led me through the fires of L.A., stretching from the Palisades up to an arm of the Malibu,

over the hills, to a place called Eaton, near the JPL, and even down towards San Diego.

But the big one is Palisades.

A year afterwards, what's the mood in L.A. about this?

What do people want to know?

You didn't need, John. Well, the mood is not good. Just yesterday, they had an anniversary

remembrance event in the Palisades, and thousands of people turned out. Most of them, of course,

are in the Palisades, West L.A. area. And they were there to not just remember the 12

people that died and the neighborhoods that were lost in the Palisades area, but also to

voice their anger at city and state government for the lack of support as they've tried to rebuild.

And really, you know, the story of the Palisades fire, you've got the Eaton fire, which you mentioned, and that was really,

looks to be caused by a local utility, Southern California, Edison. We'll find out more as

that progresses through the courts. But the Palisades fire, which was originally started

by an arsonist and then made worse by the city and the state. And then when the fire started,
