In this episode of Service Course, Lizzy Banks and Tom Whalley look at the increasingly important role that 3D printing is playing in bike design.

They discuss the 3D printed bars that Filippo Ganna used to win 3 stages at the Giro and the World TT Championships. We also hear from Dimitris Katsanis who designs and builds the 3D printed bars for the Ineos Grenadiers.

I've done another crystal ball gazing of where things go.

And the reason for that is I realized that you can do with 3D printing a lot of shapes,

the complicated geometries that you cannot do with normal metal work techniques

like machining and forging and all that stuff.

I've kind of been blown away by how far

time trial tech has come in the last few years.

You know, it used to be a relatively, I don't say it was ever a level playing field,

but you know, the tech and equipment involved in time trial in his advance so much.

I mean, you see today with Dennis and Ghana up front,

and one thing that I really picked up on both those riders is the 3D printed handlebars and ganas.

You know, whether you call them the skis or the extensions,

it's incredible. I mean, it's crazy how

you know, far it is from the base bar of his time trial bar up to where his hands are resting.

And I know that there's a lot of rules in place from the UCI as far as regulations,

as angle of angles, you know, the tip of the bars to the saddle.

And there's all sorts of, you know, rules that you have to your bike has to fit within the jig at the start line.

But it's crazy to see with 3D printing just how far

they can push those limits. And there's a there's a rule that your elbow pads have to be,
