I'm John Batch who is my good colleague, Judy Dempsey. She's in Berlin. Eyes on the German Bundestag.

Judy's with the Carnegie Entowment for International Peace, a senior scholar. The Bundestag is divided,

as it must be, several parties, and the coalition right now is CDU and the socialists working together.

There is, however, a shadow over the Bundest, alternative for Deutschland, which rejects NATO,

rejects the EU, rejects America, rejects the immigration policy practice these last years by Germany,

and now and again travels to Moscow to hang out. Okay. Alternative for Deutschland is mostly

origins are in eastern Germany. In other words, this was under the communist boot for

decades. However, it's making

strong McGainz, locally in West Germany. I'll set that aside because what is new to me

is that there is apparently a split in the leadership. Alice Vidal, the former Goldman Sachs banker,

everybody wants you to know that,

but she also lives in Switzerland, an unusual leader not to live in Germany. But she is taking one side of, we've got to broaden our appeal, we can't just be a bunch of Soviet

stoogees here. And the other side is a man named Hoopla, who dresses very well in

three-piece suits and travels to Moscow. Judy, this split, was it always there or something

new happened since the election? Hmm. Was it always there? Well, certainly Alice Fidal has never been overtly pro-Russian,

and she's more West German-orientated than East German. And the AFJ, by the way, had its roots

by West German economists several years ago, but it was taken over by the East Germans. But she's been, she,

she has to look after her electorate. And she's looking at the opinion polls. And for the

moment, the public opinion polls are standing behind Ukraine. Of course, IFTA in East Germany would like negotiations

and dialogue with Russia, which is why the presence of these two parliamentary deputies belonging

to the IFTA. They went up to Sochi, over to Sochi in Russia near the Crimea, and hosted

by President Vladimir Putin's United Party.
