Burton, our colleague at the Synopsis Institute in Ottawa, looking at a headline written

How many more times will Beijing fool Canada's politicians? Charles, your remarks summarize

years of questions unanswered about China's influence peddling in Canada.

The new prime minister is aware of all of these details. Is he addressing the matter directly to

the Parliament or to the people of Canada? The short answer to that question is no. He's not

very responsive to Parliament. He seems to see himself as a CEO of the country.

He doesn't attend question period very often. And he doesn't seem to be taking parliamentary

committees very seriously. And in general, his advisors are no longer cabinet ministers, members of Parliament, but important

and successful figures in finance and business who are taking up key positions in the

prime minister's office.

So the disrespect for democratic institutions under Mr. Carney

continues apace. So I don't think that he's been responsive to this at all, but what we're

seeing is a great increase in the amount of Canadian elite business engagement with China, including
