This is John Batchelor, conversation with colleague Mark Simon, late of Apple Daily, Jimmy Lies deputy.

Jimmy Lies condemned. However, there are six editors from the Apple Daily who are in various stages of being condemned or being jailed.

And Mark Simon here gives a good measure of where they are in the process.

Some are to be held because they're young and dangerous to China's Communist Party.

Some are to be held because they didn't cooperate.

Mark explains, this is all, of course, irregular and unacceptable.

There's no crime here other than the state is the crime.

We still have six colleagues there.

Their sentences are varied.

A couple have gotten sentences up to 10 years.

Hopefully they will get out.

But like I say, I do think that when you see the Chinese the way they treat people from political crimes and threats, who they,

who they regard as a threat. For example, young Joshua Wong has been retried, or I should retried.

He recharged. He's pled guilty. And now he's facing another charge. And I think that's because the Chinese don't want him out and about. And so they're holding him in. We've got our people hopefully will start being released within this year, I mean the end of this year, early next year. And then, but we have two who are sentenced to 10 years because they did not cooperate.

Right.
