Summary
The 2000 Australian Grand Prix marked the start of Ferrari's dominance of the early years of the 21st century, although it took an assist from an unreliable McLaren team for Michael Schumacher to score his first win in an F1 season-opener since 1995.
Matt Beer and Mark Hughes join Glenn Freeman to revisit how Schumacher got off to the perfect start, Jenson Button's rollercoaster F1 debut after much debate before the season, a bizarre spat between Eddie Irvine and McLaren, and the beginning of F1's 2000s manufacturer boom, with Honda and BMW back on the grid, Toyota waiting in the wings and Renault buying Benetton.

| 1:10.2 | When you think of the |
| 1:11.4 | 2000 Australian Grand Prix, what's the first thing that comes to mind? Well, it was a very |
| 1:15.9 | significant race for me because it was the first time I'd attended in my new autosport role as an |
| 1:21.2 | F1 correspondent. I've done a couple of Grand Prix before, including Donington 93, but this was the |
| 1:27.1 | first race to the rest of my professional |
| 1:29.1 | life, really. It was a new world and a beautiful place at which to start, you know, and an Australian |
| 1:34.3 | sun in the park. So, yeah, it was very significant for me. I still remember it for that reason. |
| 1:39.4 | Yeah, it's very cool. I like it when it says a personal connection for someone, someone in the team. |
| 1:44.5 | Now, Matt, I guess there was probably more chance of you being at Castle Coom than Albert Park, |
