This is Pints with Jack, season six, episode 19, The Island. Out of the Silent Planet, Chapter 17. Welcome, everyone. Here on Pints with Jack, we're reading our way through the works of

C.S. Lewis. I'm Andrew, and I'm joined by my co-host, David and Matt. This season, we find

ourselves among the stars, reading through

the first of C.S. Lewis's science fiction trilogy out of the silent planet. We're rapidly

coming to the climax of the book, and with it we find in one chapter some of the harshest

descriptive language followed by some of the most lush

portrayals that Lewis uses.

And we also meet a fiffletrig and learn much more about Malacandra and its place in the fields

of Arbol and also Ransom's upcoming fate.

So, today's episode is named after the 2005 movie starring Scarlett Johansson and Ewan

McGregor.

It's called The Island and it's a movie which I rather enjoyed and which I think speaks

rather powerfully to, I'm going to say various bioethical questions.

I'm going to say what those questions are because that would give away the plot.

But it's a really good movie. So gentlemen, how are you doing today?

We're recording this on Easter week. Holy week. And so I'm slightly disappointed. I have such,

I've had some of my most profound experiences during these weeks. And then I've also had some

letdown ones in the sense that I just get such high weeks. And then I've also had some let down ones in the

sense that I just get such high expectations. And I think I'm not quite at the place I wanted
