Summary

For the first time, we hear the first hand accounts of the night that Jaime Melgar's body was found by his family. Bob interviews Jaime's brother, Herman, and his sister-in-law, Maria.

Neither Herman or Maria speak English, so their daughter, Marissa, translates the interview.

0:29.0	At around 8 o'clock PM on the evening of December 23, 2012, both Herman and Maria Melgar were interviewed
0:54.2	by a deputy Garcia of the Harris County Sheriff's Department.
1:01.7	Garcia was chosen to interview the Melgar's because he was a Spanish-speaking officer.
1:07.2	However, he was not one of the lead detectives investigating this murder.
1:12.7	And that's why he really didn't know which questions to ask.
1:19.7	This wasn't an investigative interview.
1:22.2	This was a simple statement.
1:25.2	He asked both Herman and Maria separately to describe the events of the night.
1:32.2	And that was it.
1:34.2	That was the only time Maria or Herman were ever interviewed by the police or the prosecution.
1:44.2	No one ever got the full story.
1:47.2	No one ever asked the right questions.
1:53.2	And that's why last week, Mike and I hit the road and went to visit Herman and Maria Melgar in person.
2:10.2	On Saturday, August 18, Mike and I set up our recording devices and recorded separate interviews, one with Herman and one with Maria.
2:19.2	We also put a mic on their daughter Marissa to translate for us.
2:26.2	After recording both of these interviews, we were left with a bit of a dilemma.
2:31.2	How do we produce an episode when the interviews were done in a different language?
2:37.2	We juggled around a lot of ideas, possibly hiring someone to do voiceovers in English.
