Welcome to Live Well Anyway. I'm your host, Mackenzie Kappa, formerly of cultivating the

0:14.5

lovely. And on this podcast, we focus on wellness, beauty, style, planning, and life. Basically,

0:20.1

life is messy, and here we learn to

0:22.3

live well anyway. So join me on this journey as we figure it out together. And just to get us

0:27.1

started, I'll go first. Today is a really fun conversation with my good friend Katie Deckett,

0:33.2

who you know I love to have on the show. And we are talking all about connecting with our kids through

0:38.5

media. So we are actually going to be having some really fun episodes coming up throughout the

0:43.6

month of April. Both of us have boys who have 15th birthdays in April. And so we thought it would

0:49.2

0:56.1

teenagers and not all of you have teenage boys, but a lot of you have kids that are coming up into

1:01.7

those years and we want to dissuade some of your fears about that. We are by no means giving the

1:07.9

prescription for how you can, you know, raise great teens. We just kind of want to

1:12.8

share from our experience how we are doing things and what things have worked and what things haven't

1:17.4

and both from a married mom perspective and a single mom perspective and how we've developed

1:22.8

relationships with our boys and we try to foster those. And specifically today, it doesn't even necessarily

1:28.4

have to be about teens, but we are talking about connecting with our kids through media and allowing

1:34.4

media things, whether it's podcasts or TV shows or movies, to really take those relationships

1:39.9

deeper and spark bigger conversations with them and allowing it to be a place where we can meet

1:45.9

our kids and really go deeper with them and show them that we care about their interests.

1:51.1

And guess what?

1:51.9

Sometimes their interests can unexpectedly become your own as well.

1:56.2

And so we are going to dive into that in this episode.
