In today's episode, we're going to back things up a bit.

Like I mentioned in this week's follow-up, I've been out of town all week,

so Mike and I had to put this week's episode together in a time crunch.

Several months back, we received a transcript of Herman Melgar's police statement

that he gave the deputy Garcia on the night his brother's body was found.

The interview was conducted in Spanish, and the transcript showed both the Spanish conversation

as well as the English translation.

A few weeks ago, I put out a request for help.

I needed a bilingual transcriptionist to listen to the actual audio

and create an accurate English transcript to compare to the transcript that we received

from the DA's office to check it for accuracy.

Two listeners, Maria and Azul, volunteered for the job.

Maria is a professional transcriptionist, and both she and Azul are native Spanish speakers.

Maria transcribed the interview in Azul double-checked her work.

From there, we turned the transcript over to listener Kaylee.

She's a theater teacher at Harold K. Middle School in Victoria, Texas.
