Summary

Have you ever met a true kindred spirit whose story mirrors your own to a T? In this episode, Mari Llewellyn, founder of Bloom and host of the Pursuit Of Wellness Podcast, joins Oliva to share her story of going from rock bottom to owning a massive wellness empire. Over the years Mari shifted her focus from the “before and after photo” to valuing balance more than perceived positive extremes. She also dives into her mental health struggles with BPD and OCD, breaking free of codependency, and what her real lived experience looks like behind the scenes. This episode is a true masterclass in what it means to find your why and trust yourself enough to see it through.

HERE’S THE JUICE:

  • The wild similarities between Olivia’s and Mari’s stories and how they turned their lived experiences into powerful platforms for healing and community

  • How to spend time alone without the fear of loneliness

  • Cultivating a level of self-awareness and curiosity in order to think about your behavior instead of just behaving

  • How to identify tools to nurture a balanced life and invest in the long term

  • Why avoiding pain is NOT the answer & the power that comes with learning to sit in the pain as opposed to numbing out

  • The unspoken sense of grief that comes from knowing that you’re not for everyone

  • Why Mari is choosing to embrace the weirdness in her life vs a curated aesthetic

  • The importance of learning that no one is coming to save you – it’s up to you to change

Today we have an episode that's more of a girl to girl heart to heart human to

0:08.4

human chat very similar to the episode that I did with my friend Krista Williams that you guys loved at the top of the

0:14.8

season. This episode is with Mari Luellen, who is a fellow founder in the health and

0:20.2

wellness world and who is very much known for her massive weight loss and health

0:27.3

transformation she a few years back she lost I think 90 or 100 pounds and didn't do it the starvation way but did it the

0:37.0

lifting way and got super strong and it's still an avid weightlifter and fitness gal to this day who you can tell is just so

0:46.8

married to the craft and the love of it and really has this positive relationship

0:51.6

with exercise which is so cool to watch and it's been amazing

0:54.1

to watch her maintain these changes and build a business and kind of turn her life around.

0:59.5

I thought it was such a fun conversation because as I kind of started to research her to understand

1:06.2

her story and the inner workings of her mind and how someone goes from being in a place of feeling totally lost and out of control in their body and

1:15.6

rock bottom with their health both physically and mentally and how that kind of a person

1:20.1

experience is key mindset shifts or you know like come to Jesus moments where they somehow

1:27.6

dig deep within themselves and find the will to completely turn their lives around and

1:36.7

create something a lot bigger than themselves and just enter this like locked in focus I'm gonna make it mode and I found myself to be really inspired by her story and also to find so many

1:45.3

parallels within our journeys and the more that I learned about Marry the more that I

1:49.3

realized we had very similar upbringing we had really similar experiences in our homes having a parent that struggled a lot with

1:58.4

mental illness and just with our relationship with them, that formative like mother experience, and how much that played a role in some of our own struggles with our worth and our body image and how we treated our bodies and looking to food and even substances as a coping

2:14.1

mechanism and how we sort of got out of that and began to mother ourselves and

2:17.9

learn to be comfortable with ourselves and give ourselves that love that we

2:21.8

didn't feel like we received.

2:23.2

And obviously she and I both started companies around the same time and put our journeys out
