A small boy, first name cash, last name lost to history,

ventured out early on Sunday, March 13th, 1921, to do little country boy things down by Allen's bridge.

The yellow river flowed slowly under the bridge before it spilled into a lake.

The bridge sat on the border of Newton and Jasper counties, an area dotted with small tenant farms and sawmills.

In 1921, George's cotton economy was in steep decline, battered by bull weevils and falling prices.
