movies and The Sopranos.

I'd like to think that mobsters, or are they called mafiosos if they're in the mafia,

are not nearly as violent as they're portrayed to be on screen. I'd like to think, instead of

concrete shoes or knives to the base of the skull, it's more stern lectures and serious warnings

that never really get followed through on. Worst case scenario may be a bullet to the knee,

but baseball bats to the noggin or severed horseheads, never. I have a little more knowledge

and experience, however, with labor unions. I'm a big believer in unions. I've been a member of both

major entertainment unions for over 35 years, and when I was

in my 20s as the staff rep for the university I worked for, I was approached by staff from another

branch of the same school who said they were thinking of unionizing. The next week, they were

abruptly fired. Totally coincidentally, I'm sure. I'm sure it had nothing to do

with them talking to the union. My mother was the founding president of the National Writers' Union.

She was pushed out after a year by a group of dudes, and while that sucks, I suppose we should

all be grateful those men didn't

have names like Big Tony, Fat Tony, Tiny Tony, or Tony, Tony, Tony, or my mother might have
