One year on from making his debut in Formula One, Michael Schumacher became a winner for the first time at the iconic Spar-Frankfranchisome circuit.

It was unquestionably one of 1992's more exciting races, with Spar's typical changeable weather and the sort of quick thinking that

became a Schumacher trademark proving key to victory. But this was also a memorable weekend off

track with chaos breaking out in the driver market as Nigel Mansell, Ayrton Senna and

Alan Prost were battling it out for the chance to race for the dominant Williams team in 1993.

Joining me, Glenn Freeman, for this episode of Bring Back V10s, are Ed Straw,

and I'm delighted to welcome experienced F1 journalist and author David Tremaine to the show for the first time.

Now, David, thanks so much for coming along to give us your first-hand insight

and memories from this time in F1. Now, we always start off with the same opening question on

Bring Back V10s. So, firstly, when you think back to the 1992 Belgian Grand Prix weekend,

what's the first thing that comes to mind? Well, first of all, thank you for inviting me.

I'm also delighted that I am still capable of remembering some of this.

Funny enough, I mean, obviously I remember it as Michael's first win,

but I also remember it as the race,

one of the two races, I think, should really have been Martin

Brundle's first victory. That sounds odd, but we can get into that in a minute, but those

are my two sort of primary memories of that. Yeah, yeah, I think I know when we get to it,

we'll go into what the other race was as well, because I think from what I've seen from Martin,

there was another strong one slightly earlier in the year. Ed good to have you with us again you know the drill with the opening question of course and I assume you have some sort of La Rousse or Fondmattal anecdote for us well yeah the roose is a great story in 92 because of course they parted company with Lola and they built the first true La Rousse which of course wasn't called the LaRouce. It was a Venturi because Venturi had bought into the team. They pulled out later in the season, all sorts of ownership shenanigans going on there. Brilliant stories, Laruice. Obviously we're going to save that for the standalone LaRouce special Bring Back V10's episode we'll do in the future. So I won't go into that too much now.
