| 0:28.1 | position us in this book, where are we at, and what Psalm are we going to focus on today? |
| 0:32.9 | Yep. So today we're going to focus on Psalm 72. And even though we're going through Psalm 71 through 75, |
| 0:38.8 | Psalm 72 is actually the final Psalm in Book 2 of the Psalter. So we might have talked about this |
| 0:45.0 | before. There are five books of the Psalter, or five books within the Psalter, and this is the |
| 0:50.0 | end of book two. And this is also the final prayer of David, it says in the final verse of Psalm 72. |
| 0:55.7 | So this is like a very capstone Psalm, and we're going to see why in a second. Okay. So books one |
| 1:01.6 | and two focus on Saul, David, and then this final Psalm is spoken by Solomon, David's son. |
| 1:10.6 | And in Psalm 72, Solomon looks to the day |
| 1:13.6 | when the messianic king will reign. So if you remember in 2 Samuel 7, this is when God speaks to |
| 1:21.4 | David and makes what's called the Davidic covenant, where God promises that there will be a future |
| 1:25.8 | king who will reign forever on the throne of |
| 1:28.7 | David. It'll be somebody from David's line. And now Solomon, David's first son, or David's son, |
| 1:34.3 | who takes up his throne, is looking to the future and anticipating what that sort of reign will |
| 1:39.6 | look like. And that's what this Psalm is about. Okay, great. So that's really helpful context. What does |
| 1:46.1 | this psalms say about the messianic king's reign? So Solomon imagine a king who is righteous, |
