0:03.0

0:09.0

Each week we will dive deeply into two passages of Scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the New,

0:15.0

seeing how they connect and point to Jesus.

0:17.0

Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful

0:22.0

that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present

0:26.6

throughout the entire biblical story, but the center of it. Hi, everyone. Welcome back to a year in

0:33.4

the Bible. My name is Beth and I am joined for my co-host, Alexa. Hi, friends. Today we're going to be

0:39.3

going deeper into the passage that we looked at and annotated yesterday, 1 Samuel 2, 1 through 10. So to

raise up judges who would help govern and guide the Israelites. Though God did give Israel relief from their enemies when these judges

1:13.0

ruled, this didn't change the Israelites' behavior. They just continued in their rebellion against God.

1:19.4

The last sentence is, the last sentence of judges is pretty somber, and it shows the state Israel was

1:24.5

in. It says, in those days, there was no king in Israel. Everyone did whatever

1:30.2

seemed right to him. So when we open up First Samuel, Israel is still not in a good place. They have

1:36.5

no main leader or ruler over them, besides the Lord, of course, and they are a rebellious people.

1:42.9

But God still has a plan, and we start to see his plan unfold in the first few chapters of 1st Samuel.

1:49.4

Even though Israel as a whole is rebellious, there are still people who are faithfully worshipping the Lord.

1:56.1

An example of this is Elkanah and his wife Hannah.
