Hello everyone and welcome back to Truth and Justice.

In this week's episode we're going to bridge the gap between George Powell's 2009

conviction of the armed robbery of the 7-11 in Colleen, Texas to his current post-conviction

relief hearings. After George's conviction he was left with a 28-year sentence in no resources

to help fight his wrongful conviction. So how did we get from that point to where his case stands

today? With all of the power of the innocent's project of Texas and the Truth and Justice army

behind him fighting to overturn his wrongful conviction. The answer to that question comes from

a criminal justice student from Canada. Her name is Tamara Parsons. After writing an unsolicited

letter to George Powell, Tamara eventually became George's saving grace.

As we look back to George's conviction, you remember that there were four elements of the

state's case against him. One of those elements was the testimony of Jailhouse Snitch Mr. Smith.

As we heard in last week's episode in this week's Friday follow-up, that leg of the state's case

has now been cut out from underneath them. At this point all they have left was Melissa Keane's

photo line-up identification of George Powell that was reconciled by the testimony of Mr. Michael

Knox, a supposed photogrammetry expert who claimed that after his analysis he was certain that

the robber could not have been any shorter than six foot one inches tall. That of course was in

direct conflict with Melissa Keane's written statement where she said the robber was only five foot six.
