0:43.7	okay if I just start with some questions for you? That sounds great. All right. Well, Hebrews 11 gives a
0:48.9	definition of faith and then list examples from Israel's history. How should we understand faith as it's described here, not just as a belief, but as something
0:58.2	lived out?
0:59.1	And how does that differ from how our culture often defines faith?
1:04.2	Yeah, that's a great question.
1:05.4	So looking at the first verse of Hebrews 11, now faith is the assurance of things hoped for,
1:11.8	the conviction of things not seen. So faith is trusting and living confidently in the truth that God is who he says
1:17.5	he is and he's going to do what he says he will do. So know that faith, it's not blind. It's an
1:22.3	assured trust. It's knowing that God is trustworthy, that he keeps his word. The difference between faith,
1:28.2	as the world defines it, and Christian faith is the object of our faith. To know that Jesus is the one
1:34.0	we are looking to, that he's the fulfillment of all the Old Testament prophecies. He is sure, and we
1:38.9	don't have to worry. One, the, actually, it's the ESV study Bible. It says biblical faith is not a vague hope grounded in imaginary, wishful thinking.
1:47.9	Instead, faith is a settled confidence that's something in the future, something that is not yet seen, but has been promised by God, will actually come to pass because God will bring it about.
1:59.8	So a lot of times our culture places faith in ourselves,
