0:08.3	Thanks for joining. Today, we are reading Romans 15 and 16, and I am back in the podcast studio. It's been a while, but I'm here with faithful Watermark member, Carrie Perry.
0:18.7	Hi. So good to be back. So good to have you. A lot's changed in your life.
0:23.1	A lot. It's true. I can't remember. I think I was already married last time I was here. I think you were. I think so.
0:28.8	But I do have a child now, which changes a lot of your life. I believe it. And I'm not on staff here anymore. Because I get to be full-time mom,
0:39.5	which is a blessing. We do miss you. I know. But it is a blessing. I do miss being here some days.
0:46.7	It really is a gift to be home with her, and I don't take that for granted. I love it. Well, Carrie,
0:51.2	I have three questions for you from today's reading. Are you good if we just jump right in?
0:55.8	Let's do it. Okay. The first one is this. Paul prays that the church would live in harmony with one another and welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you. How do these verses speak into the challenges of unity across cultural, ethnic, and even generational
1:11.9	differences in the church today? I think at first listen or first glance at hearing that
1:18.5	question, it's easy to get caught up and almost nervous when you start to mention culture,
1:24.8	ethnic differences. It kind of can put people on edge because there can be a lot
1:30.4	of controversy in those conversations. And people get uncomfortable. What if I do this wrong? What if
1:37.0	I offend? It can be sticky in some ways. But pointing us back to scripture, verse five, where this is pulled from in chapter 15, where Paul says, may the God of endurance, an encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another in accord with Jesus Christ.
1:54.7	And I pause there and I like to think of, okay, what is harmony?
1:58.6	And something that is incredible about harmony is there
2:02.2	differences in order to make up harmony. Now, I'm no music major. I am not about to try to teach
2:08.4	music here. You're going to sing for us? No, I'm not about to give you a music lesson. But what I do
2:13.8	know is it takes differences. It's not the same note. It is different notes,
2:19.7	different tunes, tones. Once again, those might be the wrong words, but you get the point.
2:24.9	When it comes to cultural differences and ethnics, what I like to say here is we need
2:31.0	differences and differences create beauty. and when those differences work together
