Summary

How does God respond to false prophets? In today's episode, Emma Dotter and Jentri Cornelius discuss Jeremiah 28-30. Jentri walks us through the story of Hananiah and why God's response to Hananiah's false teaching was necessary for the good of his people. We are reminded that we too can be easily led astray from God's teachings and how to avoid that happening in our lives.

Additional references: Deuteronomy 28; Acts 17:11

Everybody, what is going on? You know what time it is. You're listening to join the Journey podcast with your host, Emma, daughter. Thanks for joining. Today, we are reading Jeremiah 28 through 30, and I am in the podcast studio with a faithful watermark member, Gentry Cornelius. Woo! Gentry! Emma! I'm so glad you're here today.

Thanks. I'm glad to be here. I love the spirit. Hey, the energy. It's real. Good. Hey, tell us a little bit about what's God done in your life in what are you up to today. Absolutely. Short answer is so much. I am so thankful for all that the Lord has done in my life. And I think a theme of my life is astonishment at his faithfulness to me, because that's definitely not who I am. I am a very unfaithful sinner, but thankfully, the Lord made that really clear to me at a young age, and so when I was six years old, I just was genuinely so convicted over the sin of my life, which I look back and I'm like,

0:54.8

what was I doing? Like lying to my parents, probably. And God was kind enough to show me that that is

0:58.9

just not where the fullness of life is found. And truly, from the moment that I gave my life to the

1:03.5

Lord, when I was six, I've experienced a lot of freedom and gotten to learn over a longer period

1:08.6

of time, which is necessary for my personality,

1:11.4

what it looks like to submit my life to the Lord on a daily basis and to grow in faithfulness

1:16.8

that he has shown me over crazy moves throughout my life, big things going on in my family.

1:22.7

And so very grateful for his consistency and kindness to me.

1:30.3

And all of that has ultimately led me to Watermark where I am today. Yes, where you're employed. I am currently employed and that's the gag. That's the

1:35.5

joke. Wait, why? I spent the last year at the Institute and had never even stepped foot in Dallas.

1:42.2

Okay. So everything about the past year of my life has been very

1:45.1

foreign. Like I think my home church had maybe 90 total members. And now I work with students

1:51.5

and we average, I don't know, 350 on a given Sunday. So it's very different. But it's so cool.

1:58.0

And I think it has genuinely taught me more about God's ability to reach.

2:02.4

And that's 350 middle schoolers.

2:03.3

Middle schoolers. Only. Wake. Yes. That's right. Wake up people because there are middle schoolers on the rise.

2:08.4

Yes. That's crazy. But I love it. And I think it's also genuinely taught me so much dependence on the Lord because I realize more and more like, I think if I had been working with maybe 30 total students, a part of me could have gone, oh, no, I can manage this on my own. And when you step into a room of 350, you go, yeah, for sure, God, you're going to have to be the one to take care of this. In what your role specifically? Thank you so much for asking. I am the student's programs coordinator, which basically entails all things

2:35.2

fun, silly, and retreats related. So I work on a weekly basis doing like the program for our

2:40.7

middle school ministry, but then I dabble with Shoreline, which is our high school ministry,

2:44.8

Rally, which is our college ministry, and I just help them with random games, retreats, and fun

2:49.5

activities. Awesome. I love it.
